What HPi Doesn't Like in CBT!
- Too many special effects
- Too many choices of route through the training material
- Extortionate charges for amendments
Have you noticed how “flash” CBT packages have become? Little animals with mortar boards run around screens; objects float around merging into all kinds of shapes and colours; sound tracks bedazzle you and so on……. Most CBT providers are falling over themselves to fill their packages with more and more exciting features.
Exciting is great for retaining interest but if it goes too far, does this help you to learn? It is pointless if the student is simply watching and waiting for the special effects. Not only that, but flashy features are time consuming to "program" and so a package full of exciting features will be expensive as well as being in danger of hiding the message.
Also, if the user is faced with an array of options of where to go next, he can never be sure that all the pages have been visited. Each "fork in the road" presents a dilemma. Options at key points can be useful but too many can be confusing - as well as increasing the possibility for "dead-ends".
Due to all the array of special effects and complex road maps, some CBT suppliers’ contracts will not allow for changes after delivery. Those that do allow changes charge heavily. Thus the purchase of a customised CBT package can be both expensive and risky.
What HPi Does Like in CBT!
- Simplicity
- Flexibility
- Ease-of-update
What if a computer-based training package was written in such a way that it could be amended and updated so easily that this could be done without charge, whenever the user wanted? HPi have achieved this!
As a result, HPi’s CBT packages are unashamedly simple & unfussy. We would be the first to point out that there are more visually exciting packages on the market but simplicity means low-cost customised training software with free updates. It also means ease-of-use, which makes the training experience calm and fruitful rather than bemusing.
